The man accused of assassinating conservative commentator Charlie Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old college student from Utah.
According to law enforcement sources cited by the Daily Mail, Robinson was arrested Thursday night in Washington, Utah, nearly 260 miles south of Orem, where Kirk was shot and killed during a rally at Utah Valley University.
Authorities say Robinson admitted to his father, Matt Robinson, a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, that he was behind the killing. His father contacted law enforcement and ensured his son was taken into custody without incident.
Robinson was a scholarship student at Utah State University and lived with his family in a six-bedroom home worth about $600,000. His mother, Amber, works with a state-contracted agency that helps provide services for people with disabilities.
Social media accounts depict Robinson as a smiling young man close with his parents and younger brothers, often posting about vacations and celebrating academic successes.
Officials have not confirmed a motive. Prosecutors announced Robinson could face the death penalty if convicted.
