MILWAUKEE – After declining his player option for next season, Bobby Portis agreed to sign a 3-year, $44 million deal to remain with the Milwaukee Bucks according to agent Mark Barelstein on Sunday.
Portis has been a staple of the Bucks’ bench since joining the team back in 2021 where he would help the franchise defeat the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Finals. Since then, Portis has received votes for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in three of the past five years.
Last season was another strong showing from the 30-year-old averaging 13.9 points per game, 8.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists across 49 games. (RELATED: Misiorowski Flashes Triple-Digit Heat in MLB Debut for Brewers)
However, Portis missed a total of 25 games due to a suspension after violating the league’s anti-drug program by testing positive for a banned substance. Portis claimed that he violated the policy unknowingly, saying that he believed he was taking an approved substance while working through an elbow injury.
On top of the suspension, Portis also missed time while grieving the death of his grandmother and working through the burglary of his home.
The return of Portis is a timely one for the Bucks who recently saw the departure of starting center Brook Lopez who signed with the Los Angeles Clippers on a 2-year deal. (RELATED: 50 Cent Wants Mamdani Gone – Offers Cash And First Class Ticket To Leave New York)
Throughout his 10-year career in the NBA, Portis has posted a career average of 12 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists across stops with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks and now the Bucks.
