With the 2025 Young Republicans National Convention just finished, the organization has announced that they will follow in the footsteps of the Republican National Committee and look to Milwaukee to host their next national event.
Kyle Schroeder, Chairman of the Wisconsin Young Republicans, had this to say: “Once again, Wisconsin will be in the national spotlight as Young Republicans from across the country gather in Milwaukee to organize, energize, and help elect Republicans up and down the ballot.”
However, not all may be thrilled by the idea of another national convention being held in Milwaukee.
Although the RNC convention drew in tens of thousands of visitors and boosted revenue in the city, some individuals such as Wisconsin Young Democrats Chair Jake Williams decry the decision to host another conservative convention in the city as predatory.
“[Republicans} try to steal Milwaukee’s funding; and then they show up during election season only to take advantage of the city and then leave it hurting — it’s the same playbook just a different year.” Williams did not elaborate on what “funding” he was referring to.
The YR’s Nashville,TN national convention saw Hayden Padgett reelected to a second term as national chair after a contentious race.
The event draws a crowd from all over the nation, and this year’s convention sold out with over 1,000 attendees from all 50 states. (RELATED: Milwaukee Nonprofits Receive $350,000 in Furniture Donations from RNC Committee)
Wisconsin is a critical swing state going into the next Presidential election, which will be scheduled just over a year after the August 2027 YR National Convention. President Trump won Wisconsin by less than 1% of the vote in both 2016 and 2024.
Wisconsin was the only state to have a margin of victory of less than 1% in the 2024 Presidential election.
Young voters voted for Harris over Trump at the national level by a margin of 6%. However, President Trump had narrowed this gap by 20 points from 2020 against former President Biden.
The 2024 RNC convention brought in $321 million in revenue to Milwaukee, including $216 million in direct spending. It also supported over 3,400 local jobs.
