As the current frontrunner in the New York City mayoral race, Zohran Mamdani may be at the head of a strong campaign, but the progressive candidate was chided for his underwhelming bench press during a campaign stop on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Democratic Party nominee for Mayor descended on an open event in Brooklyn and attempted to impress onlookers, but was unable to do one rep on a 135 pound bar without assistance from a spotter.

The viral video drew widespread mockery from Mamdani’s two opponents and others in a campaign that has so far had disciplined and sleek messaging.

“64 vs 33. A lifetime of hard work vs. a silver spoon. The results speak for themselves,” incumbent Mayor Eric Adams wrote on X. (RELATED: FEMA to Conduct Damage Assessment in the Aftermath of Devastating Floods)

“The weight of the job is too heavy for “Mamscrawny.” The only thing he can lift is your taxes,” Adams further jibed.

For his part, Adams was depicted lifting the 135 pound bar with little assistance multiple times, drawing a clear contrast between him and his opponent.

Conservative female athlete Riley Gaines joined in on the fun, displaying her ability to bench press 165 pounds with relative ease despite only weighing 130 pounds.

Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo also took the opportunity to make fun of his opponent, saying that Mamdani can’t ‘carry the weight’ of leading New York City. (RELATED: Mayor of Milwaukee Chooses Convicted Murderer to Lead ‘Violence Prevention Office’)

“This guy can’t bench his own body weight, let alone carry the weight of leading the most important city in the world.”

While Mamdani’s bench press may leave a lot to be desired, the progressive candidate currently commands an overwhelming lead in the polls, with a recent survey finding that he has 41.8% support to Cuomo’s 23.4% support and Adams 8.8% support.
