Misiorowski was chosen to replace Chicago Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd in Atlanta for the MLB All-Star Game following just five career starts at the major league level. Within those games, Misiorowski has completed 25 ⅔ innings with a 4-1 record and 2.81 ERA.
He broke the record for the quickest pitcher to appear in an All-Star Game with the least number of starts, surpassing the record set in 2024 by Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates who started 11 games.
The nod clearly meant a lot to Misiorowski who was emotional when speaking with the media following the announcement.
“I’m speechless,” Misiorowski said according to MLB.com. “It’s awesome. It’s very unexpected and it’s an honor.”
The decision to add Misiorowski to the All-Star was not without controversy as several Philadelphia Phillies aired their opinions with shortstop Trea Turner believing the decision was “f—ing terrible.”
Members of the Phillies were particularly frustrated because they believed a pair of their own left handers Ranger Suarez, and Christopher Sanchez, were more deserving alternates since both had pitched for a majority of the regular season.
“That’s just how MLB does it now,” Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto said according to The Athletic. “Nothing against the Misiorowski kid. But [Suarez and Sanchez] are deserving of being on the team in the first place. There’s no doubt.”
Despite the campaigning by the Phillies, Suarez had already declined the invitation to the All-Star Game opting to rather rest than pitch in the exhibition game. (RELATED: Bucks Waive Damian Lillard to acquire Myles Turner)
But not all participants share the opinion of the handful of Phillies as New York Yankees outfielder and reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge expressed his excitement for the opportunity to see Misiorowski compete in the game.
“He’s impressive. He’s got some of the best stuff in the game right now, even though he’s a young pitcher,” Judge said according to ESPN. “He’s going to be a special player in the game for a long time so I think he deserved it and it’s going to be pretty cool for him and his family.”
Misiorowski will have the opportunity to show the best of the MLB his 100 MPH heaters Monday night during the MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta.
The young pitcher delivered a stellar performance at the All Star Game, allowing no batters on base.
