Frustration is mounting on Milwaukee’s east side as residents grapple with an alarming spike in car break-ins. Vehicle damage incidents have surged to nearly three times last year’s rate, leaving the community on edge. The latest spree occurred early Wednesday morning, near Brady Street and Astor Street, where shattered glass and broken windows have become an all too common sight.

Sarah, a long-time resident, shared her growing anxiety: “Every morning, I wake up wondering if my car window will be broken again.” She’s already fallen victim to these crimes and feels the impact deeply. Newcomer Scotty Mann echoed her concerns, recounting how he was greeted by a series of break-ins on his very first day in the neighborhood, according to WISN.

Residents are increasingly frustrated with what they perceive as a lack of police action. “I haven’t noticed a police presence at all,” Sarah remarked, a sentiment shared by many who feel the situation isn’t being adequately addressed.

The Milwaukee Police Department, while declining an interview, stated that patrols have been increased in the affected areas. However, for the residents, the measures seem insufficient as they continue to call for more effective action to curb the rising tide of vandalism.
