Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was shot Tuesday during a campus event at Utah Valley University, according to school officials.
The shooting occurred roughly 20 minutes into Kirk’s appearance on the American Comeback Tour. University spokespersons confirmed he was the only person hit and was escorted away by his security team. The area was immediately cleared.
Videos shared online appear to show Kirk recoiling as the shot rang out, with blood visible on his neck. Audience members can be heard screaming as the crowd rushed for safety.
The FBI is now involved in the investigation. “Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a post on X. “Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”
Vice President JD Vance responded to the reports, writing, “say a prayer” for Kirk, while Utah Senator Mike Lee also posted that he was “praying for Charlie Kirk.”
Kirk’s visit to Utah Valley University was part of a nationwide tour aimed at engaging students in discussions about conservative values.
