As Democrats find themselves in the political wilderness and struggle to come up with a unified messaging strategy to oppose President Donald Trump, one Senator, Cory Booker, voiced his frustration with his colleagues, calling them ‘complicit’ in authoritarianism.
Senator Cory Booker, D-Nj. gave a fiery speech on Tuesday over a police funding bill that had rare bipartisan support during one of the most polarizing sessions in recent history.
The bills in question primarily focused on family death benefits for first responders and providing police with trauma kits. (RELATED: Bizarre Protest Involving a Coffin Hits Wisconsin Lawmaker’s Home)
Despite bipartisan support from both chambers, Booker used his floor time to chastise his Democratic colleagues.
“That is complicity with an authoritarian leader who is trashing our country,” Booker argued to his fellow Democrats. “It is time for Democrats to have a backbone. It’s time for us to fight. It’s time for us to draw a line, and when it comes to the safety of my state being denied these grants, that’s why I’m standing here.”
In addition to being mocked by conservatives on social media, Booker received pushback from his fellow Democrats, including Senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada and Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. (RELATED: Viral App for Women Hacked Exposing Thousands of Unsuspecting Men)
