With the election just weeks away, Milwaukee’s Holy Redeemer Church took action to encourage voter participation. On Sunday, September 22, the church teamed up with Reverend Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow PUSH Coalition to help register voters after their morning service.

Reverend Jackson spoke to the congregation, urging young people who would be eligible by Election Day to stand and ensure they were registered. David Baker, one of four unregistered attendees, shared his desire to support candidates who would advocate for marginalized communities, according to FOX6.

While the church emphasized it was not endorsing any specific candidates, they made it clear how important voting is. U.S. Rep. Jonathan Jackson called this election “the most consequential race of our lifetime,” underlining the urgency.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, who plans to vote early, reminded the public that ballots are already being mailed out. In-person early voting will open from October 22 through November 3, providing ample opportunity for residents to cast their votes.

Baker, reflecting on his decision not to vote in 2016, vowed to make his voice heard this year, expressing gratitude for the church’s efforts to educate and mobilize the community.’
