The man who ambushed two Milwaukee police officers, killing one, had a history of non-prosecuted arrests for domestic violence and other crimes, according to investigation from Wisconsin Right Now.
Initial reports showed Jones had no criminal record, but additional research showed multiple arrests for domestic violence and a 2021 arrest for joyriding in a stolen car and resisting arrest. (RELATED: District 7 Understaffing Is Dangerous says Milwaukee Police Association).
The 2021 arrest did not appear in his criminal record because court commissioner JC Moore dismissed the charges in April of this year. Jones entered a guilty plea in 2021 in exchange for a deferred prosecution agreement that would vacate the conviction if he had no further violations. Judge Hannah Dugan supervised the DPA.
None of the domestic violence cases, including one involving a firearm, were prosecuted or taken into account in the 2025 dismissal. DPAs had drawn national criticism for systematic flaws that shield repeat offenders.
On the night of June 26th, Jones allegedly called 911 then hid in the bushes and ambushed police officers Kendall Corder and Christopher McCray. An anonymous neighbor witnessed the incident. (RELATED: Milwaukee Officer Shot During Foot Chase with Suspect).

Both officers were rushed to the hospital and officer McCray was released the following day. Corder suffered severe injuries and The Milwaukee Police Department has confirmed that Officer Kendall Corder was “killed in the line of duty.”
“As the parents of a Milwaukee Police Department Lieutenant, Kathy and I cannot even begin to comprehend the sorrow and sadness that comes with this loss,” said Representative Bob Donovan. “The brave men and women in blue are the first line of defense against chaos. Their courage in the face of all obstacles is why they deserve our utmost respect. Thank you Officer Corder.”
