Recent polling indicates that the race for Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate seat is becoming more competitive as Election Day approaches. A new poll from the Cook Political Report shows that the contest between incumbent Senator Tammy Baldwin and businessman Eric Hovde has narrowed, with Baldwin holding a slim two-point lead, 49% to 47%. This marks a shift from earlier polls that showed a wider gap between the two candidates.
Both candidates have largely consolidated support from their respective parties, but independent voters are playing an increasingly significant role in shaping the outcome. While Baldwin maintains an 8-point lead among independents, Hovde has gained substantial ground with this group in recent weeks.
In addition to the polling data, significant outside funding has entered the race. The Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) recently announced a major $17 million advertising campaign in support of Hovde, reflecting the national focus on this race as control of the Senate is seen as a critical issue in the upcoming election.
A separate poll from the Trafalgar Group also shows a competitive race, with Baldwin leading Hovde 46% to 43%. While polling methodologies may vary, the close nature of the race is evident.
Key campaign issues include the economy, inflation, and healthcare. Baldwin has emphasized her record on defending healthcare access and supporting labor rights, while Hovde has focused on reducing government spending and addressing inflation.
As the race continues to tighten, it is expected to remain a focal point for both state and national observers in the final weeks leading up to the election..
