Justin Hurwitz, a distinguished graduate of Nicolet High School, maintained his flawless record at the Golden Globe Awards by clinching his fourth win on Tuesday night. Hurwitz was honored with the award for “Best Original Score for a Motion Picture” for his work on the film *Babylon*, which features stars Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.
The 37-year-old composer, who has already won accolades for his scores in *La La Land* and *First Man*, expressed his gratitude during his acceptance speech, highlighting the crucial role of his early education in Southeast Wisconsin. “I’m very grateful that I had the opportunity to figure out at a young age that music was the thing for me. I’m grateful to my parents. I’m grateful to the public schools I went to that had music classes,” Hurwitz stated. He also reflected on the broader importance of discovering one’s passion: “I think a lot about all the people out there who are really talented at something but never got a chance to figure out what that thing is…Things would be better if people could figure out the thing that they were good at, the thing they loved doing more than anything else, and we just need that opportunity.”
Competing against renowned composers such as Alexandre Desplat, Hildur GuðnadĂłttir, John Williams, and Carter Burwell, Hurwitz’s victory underscores his significant impact on the world of film music. His continued success at the Golden Globes is a testament to his profound musical talent and the foundational arts education he received.
