House leadership was taken by surprise on Tuesday morning after House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky. subpoenaed prominent political figures from both sides of the aisle in relation to the ongoing Epstein probe.
The subpoenas, which include former Democratic President Bill Clinton and former Republican Attorney Generals, are the result of mounting frustration from the Republican grassroots over a perceived lack of transparency regarding the investigation in to Jeffrey Epstein.
The ten high-profile government officials included in the subpoenas are the Clintons, former FBI Director James Comey, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, former Attorney General Eric Holder, former Attorney General Merrick Garland, former FBI Director and special counsel Robert Mueller, former Attorney General William Barr, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
In addition to demanding the testimony of numerous high-profile politicians, the subpoena calls for the Department of Justice to turn over all Epstein files in its possession. (RELATED: Bizarre Protest Involving a Coffin Hits Wisconsin Lawmaker’s Home)
The issue has been divisive among the Republican caucus, resulting in House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La. declaring an early summer recess to delay a floor vote on releasing the entirety of the ‘Epstein files’.
“There’s no purpose for Congress to push an administration to do something that they’re already doing,” Johnson said during a press conference in late July.
The next opportunity for Congress to vote on a full release of the Epstein files will be in September when they are expected to reconvene from recess.
Former Attorney General Bill Bar is the first official who was called upon to appear in the subpoena, Barr is set to testify August 18th. (RELATED: Viral App for Women Hacked Exposing Thousands of Unsuspecting Men)
