On Wednesday, the parent company of ABC, Nexstar announced they are pulling Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show after his insensitive comments about Charlie Kirk’s death.
Kimmel on his late night show, spewed lies about the accused shooter and the dismissal of Kirk’s death. The video shows Kimmel referring to the shooter as a part of the “MAGA Gang” saying how the right is trying to “characterize this kid — as anything but one of them.” (RELATED: Man Claims He Intended to ‘Draw Attention from the Real Shooter’ When Falsely Claiming He Shot Charlie Kirk)
Kimmel also criticized the President’s mourning when asked by the press. “This is not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody he [Trump] called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish, okay,” said Kimmel.
“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division.
“Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time,” also said Nexstar in their press release. (RELATED: ‘It Was Me’: Charlie Kirk Killer’s Online Confession Puts Discord Under Fire)
While not only insensitive, Kimmel’s own comments were actually incorrect. Multiple reports have surfaced of Tyler Robinson’s true affiliations and beliefs. Reports that he was involved with his transgender roommate, family members saying he was the only one in the family “on the left side,” and he was a member of a transgender sub-community for “furries.”
Kimmel’s show has been suspended indefinitely as Nexstar is evaluating their next steps with the program.
