Vice President Kamala Harris is facing fresh embarrassment after Muslim TikTok influencer Kareem Rahma revealed he shelved an interview with her over a bizarre remark—and to avoid being blamed if she lost the 2024 election.
Rahma, the creator of the “Subway Takes” series, said Harris confused and alienated him with an off-script take: calling bacon a “spice.” In a conversation with journalist Bertoni, Rahma explained why the episode never aired. “Her take was really confusing and weird – not good,” he said. “And we mutually agreed to not publish it. And I got lucky, because I didn’t want to be blamed for her losing.”
When Bertoni pressed further—“Her take was that bad?”—Rahma didn’t hold back: “It was really, really bad… it like, didn’t make any sense.” According to Rahma, the Vice President declared, unprompted, that “bacon [is] a spice.”
Rahma, who has a large Muslim following, also said the campaign refused to engage on real political issues. He had hoped to ask about the conflict between Israel and Hamas—a concern for many in his community—but said the campaign brushed off any meaningful discussion. The Harris campaign reportedly tried to preempt the blunder, with two senior staffers claiming the bacon comment had been floated before filming. Rahma’s team denies this, according to the New York Times. The incident highlights what critics say is a troubling pattern: shielding Harris from public gaffes by quietly burying missteps.
It’s not the first time Harris has been accused of needing protection from her own words. Just last week, Paramount settled a multimillion-dollar case with the Trump campaign over allegations it deceptively edited a Harris interview to favor Democrats.
