On July 12th, Officer Kendall Corder’s funeral was held at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield. He was laid to rest on Friday, with the service on Saturday.
Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffery Norman delivered a heavy hearted tribute at Officer Corder’s vigil on Saturday. Part of Chief Norman’s tribute was a poem called, “Our Brother Has Been Taken.” While reading, Chief Norman’s voice can be heard breaking with emotion.
“As in freedom is not free, nor is public safety free, and our brother Kendall has paid the ultimate price for it,” Chief Norman said. He concluded with these thoughts, “Thank you for supporting our brother’s family in their time of need–Milwaukee Police Officer Kendall Corder, rest easy, brother. Officer Corder was a 32-year-old Milwaukee Police Officer who was shot on the corner of 25th and Garfield in Milwaukee last month. Corder and his partner, Officer Christopher McCray, were in pursuit of a suspect related to a shooting on June 26th. The suspect then opened fire on the Officers, injuring both. The suspect was camping in a bush, waiting for law enforcement to arrive before opening fire. Officer Corder succumbed to his injuries days later on the 29th.
Tremaine Jones, the man accused of shooting the officers, has a history of violence. Jones apparently, had several unprosecuted arrests involving domestic violence and other crimes. He has no criminal record, however after a series of plea deals and dismissals allowed his record to be clean.
