Wisconsin Democrats are pushing for the Badger State to reconsider its Congressional maps as Republicans and Democrats engage in a tit for tat redistricting war nationwide.
The fight over redistricting has so far occurred in deep red or blue states such as Texas and California, meaning that putting a purple state such as Wisconsin in the middle of it could be particularly controversial.
Representative Gwen Moore, D-WI. decried the fact that Wisconsin has six Republicans in Congress to only two Democrats, believing that the map should more closely reflect Wisconsin’s partisan divide. Moore accused Texas’ redistricting plans of being ‘racist’ and said she does not want Wisconsin to do the same.
“It is not the same,” Moore said. “We do not want to draw a racist map, disenfranchising people of color from their representation.”
The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s liberal majority rejected a Democratic-led challenge to the current maps in June, refusing to hear the case. (RELATED: Gov. Evers Says He Won’t Endorse in 2026 Primary—But Leaves Door Open)
The renewed push for redistricting in Wisconsin follows a battle in Texas that has drawn national attention as the state legislature attempts to vote on new Congressional maps.
Dozens of Democratic legislators are still in Illinois after they fled the state to prevent being arrested as they attempt to deny the Texas House of Representatives quorum.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has threatened to kick off a redistricting battle of his own to counter Texas’ efforts. (RELATED: Jim Acosta in Hot Water for Bizarre Interview with AI Version of Parkland Victim)
California legislators are expected to release new Congressional maps this week that could be voted on in a special election this November, with Newsom warning that Texas Republicans are ‘playing with fire’.
