Following increasing calls from Democrats for President Joe Biden to step down from his reelection bid, prominent Wisconsin Democrats have remained supportive. After Biden announced his decision to step down, they honored his work and quickly backed Vice President Kamala Harris.

Senator Tammy Baldwin praised Biden’s integrity and endorsed Harris for president shortly after. Biden’s announcement followed weeks of speculation about his campaign’s viability, fueled by a lackluster debate performance and growing concern among Democrats, including a letter from Wisconsin Congressman Mark Pocan. This indicated weakening support from critical battleground states.

Despite recent endorsements for the Biden-Harris ticket, Harris announced her intention to run for president. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson pledged his support, emphasizing his commitment to electing Harris. The Wisconsin Republican Party criticized Biden’s decision, claiming it would lead to chaos and uncertainty.

Political experts like Anthony Chergosky noted that Harris must win pivotal states like Wisconsin. With Biden’s endorsement, Harris is the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. Wisconsin, part of the “blue wall” of swing states, remains crucial for a successful campaign.

Governor Tony Evers also endorsed Harris, praising her leadership and dedication. The Democratic focus now shifts to uniting behind Harris and addressing key issues to secure victory in November.
