A Wisconsin native was found guilty in the Birmingham Crown Court in the United Kingdom nearly six years after a murder plot where she attempted to kill someone on behalf of a scorned family.
Aimee Betro, 45, spent nearly six years on the run after attempting to shoot Siksander Ali at point-blank range, her attempt was unsuccessful after the gun jammed. Betro then took a taxi to Ali’s home a few hours later and fired at it before taking a plane back to the United States the next day. She was extradited from Armenia earlier this year.
The bizarre plot was catalyzed by a family feud between Ali’s family and Mohammed Aslam, 56, and his son, Mohammad Nabil Nazir, 31. (RELATED: Milwaukee Police Slayer Had History of Violence)
Both men were sentenced to over 40 years in jail after a violent brawl broke out at Ali’s fathers store, leading them to solicit Betro for her services in a planned assassination, according to Crown prosecutors.
It is likely that Betro was chosen due to her relatively clean criminal record, as an investigation found that she was ‘fairly unexceptional’ and had virtually no ‘criminal footprint’, according to the BBC. (RELATED: Jim Acosta in Hot Water for Bizarre Interview with AI Version of Parkland Victim)
For her part, Betro denied all three charges against her including conspiracy to murder and said that the shooter was “another American woman”.
It is not immediately clear why Betro agreed to carry out the attack as there is no evidence at this time that she was paid to do so.
Betro is set to be sentenced on August 21st, bringing a long awaited conclusion to the six-year long incident. (RELATED: Bizarre Protest Involving a Coffin Hits Wisconsin Lawmaker’s Home)
